Keeping track of what you eat each day by keeping a food journal is a powerful way to gain insight into your eating habits. It will help you to identify which foods you regularly consume and will assist in identifying any triggers that may exist, such as stress eating or eating out of boredom rather than hunger. The two keys to beneficial food journaling are consistency and accuracy: you want to be honest with yourself and make sure to record every food and drink item that you consume. That includes meals, snacks, and everything in-between!
 
A few additional food journaling tips are:

 

 

  • Track immediately before or after you are eating so you will not accidentally forget to add an item
  • Make note of the time of day
  • Become familiar with serving sizes
  • Consider adding how you are feeling
