Toxins in Cookware

Eggs, greens and toast in cast iron skillet

Non-stick pots and pans are so convenient when it comes time to clean up after preparing a meal. However, you may want to reconsider your use of them in the kitchen as they have been linked to negative effects on the human body.

The two chemicals lurking in the non-stick coating on pots and pans are polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) and perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA). Both chemicals can break down and leach into the air we are breathing and the food we are eating when heated to high temperatures. These chemicals have been linked to infertility, cancers, liver damage, thyroid issues, and colitis.

When you think of non-stick cookware don't just think of your pots and pans. Nonstick coating can also be found on cookie sheets, other bakeware, and crockpots.
